Presbyterian Hospital of Denton Granted Accredited Chest Pain Center Status by the Society of Chest Pain Centers

May 11, 2006

Presbyterian Hospital of Denton is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as an Accredited Chest Pain Center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers. To patients, this means that Presbyterian Hospital of Denton has met or exceeded a variety of criteria that demonstrate excellence in cardiovascular patient care.

“We are extremely excited to receive this accreditation as a recognition of our efforts to provide the best healthcare to the patients we serve,” said Stan Morton, Presbyterian Hospital of Denton CEO. “And while it means so much to our employees and staff, it can be life-saving to patients in need of quality cardiac services. They can rest assured that in case of an emergency, Presbyterian Hospital is one of only a few healthcare facilities in North Texas meeting the standards of an Accredited Chest Pain Center.”

Like other accredited facilities, the Chest Pain Center at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton seeks to provide patients experiencing symptoms of a heart attack quicker access to physicians who can evaluate their condition and provide treatment. Presbyterian Hospital of Denton has enlisted some of Denton’s leading cardiologists to serve on its cardiac team together with an experienced and professional staff.

Another important goal of the Chest Pain Center is to provide an environment for monitoring patients who require further observation to determine whether their condition represents a cardiovascular emergency. This helps to ensure that all patients receive appropriate treatment and that facility resources are available for those who require immediate care.

According to the Society of Chest Pain Centers, a healthcare facility must demonstrate expertise in eight areas to earn accreditation. These areas include:

  • Ability to integrate effectively with the local Emergency Medical System
  • Ability to assess, diagnose and treat patients quickly
  • Effectively handle patients with low risk for acute coronary syndromes and no assignable cause for their symptoms
  • Functional facility design
  • Personnel competencies and training
  • Organizational structure and commitment
  • Process improvement orientation
  • Community outreach

As part of the accreditation process, Presbyterian Hospital of Denton also submitted to an on-site evaluation by a review team from the Society of Chest Pain Centers.

Today, the Society of Chest Pain Centers estimates that there are approximately 1,500 Chest Pain Centers in the United States. To learn more about the Chest Pain Center or any other cardiac services at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton, go to www.dentonhospital.com or call 1-888-80-HEALTH.
