Sports Medicine
Presbyterian Hospital of Denton's Sports Medicine Department provides services to local high schools, recreation departments, camps and community events-as well as to individuals who are referred by a physician.
Services Include:
On-site evaluations-A certified and licensed athletic trainer will come directly to your school to evaluate an injured athlete and make recommendations regarding the care of that athlete. This is a free service.
Saturday Morning Sports Injury Screenings-This most popular service is held from August 2 to November 10, 2007. Athletes with acute injuries can come to the hospital on Saturday mornings and be evaluated by both an athletic trainer and one of the orthopedic physicians on staff at the hospital. This free service includes x-rays. To attend these meetings, an athlete/coach should do the following: call (940)898-7166 and give the athlete's name, school's name, type of injury, and date incurred, athletes should wear shorts and a t-shirt, a parent or guardian needs to accompany the athlete, athlete needs to bring social security number, and the athlete needs to bring a copy of parent's insurance information.
Sports Medicine Workshops-An athletic trainer will come to your school to provide a sports medicine inservice for coaches and staff. A reasonable fee is charged for this service depending on the length of the workshop and the cost of supplies.
Education:
During the school year, the Sports Medicine Department holds open lectures to anyone interested in Sports Medicine. This includes coaches, parents, school nurses, physical therapists and athletic trainers. The Texas Department of Health Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers and the NATABOC approve the lectures for continuing education credit for athletic trainers.
